DescriptionPieced quilt top made with hexagonal patches of mostly wool fabrics joined to form 19 flower clusters with 3 patch clusters as spacers. The pattern is sometimes referred to as "Grandmother's Garden." The technique is created by piecing over papers. At least 1 paper is left from the piecing process. A yellowed card accompanying reads: "This quilt was pieced by Mrs. Anna Bielby's great great grandmother in the year 1780 and presented to me by Mr. L.P. Bielby at the death of his wife, Emma M. Fisk"
8/16/16- Conservator Gretchen Guidess suggests this story may be folklore. The quilt was not made in 1780.
