DescriptionPieced quilt top consisting of 35 squares. The squares are created using printed and woven ribbons; silk plain weave and pile (velvet) fabrics augmented with embroidery stitching worked in multi-colored embroidery yarns. The assembled quilt top has a red velvet border and a silk fabric lining. There is an interlayer of padding. The quilt top and lining are joined together and anchor the padding with silk yarn tufts. There are ribbons sewn into the quilt that read:"Utica Fire Department, Organized June 1874"
"My Country above Party"
"Grand Commander of the State of Iowa"
