Label TextMichael Tobias of Liverpool, England, exported this Swiss watch to America. The engraving on the case depicts a scene of three highwaymen stopping a rider. It has been speculated that the portrayal represents the capture of Major John André by American troops during the Revolution. This watch is an early form of a stopwatch.
