Label TextThis coverlet was woven for Mary Chadwick in 1836, and was part of her dowry at the time of her marriage to G. W. H. Fisk. Chadwick was a daughter of the founders of Chadwicks, New York. The coverlet remained in Chadwick's family until 2003 when it was donated to the Museum of Art. The coverlet is one of only a handful of pieces documented to the New Hartford, New York weaver Samuel Butterfield. A compairison between Butterfield-made coverlets and those of Cunningham demonstrate that the two worked together at some point in their careers.
