Label TextSimpson intended this sculpture to be a work for private meditation. An individual could open the box and hold each wishbone to feel its weight and texture. Some meditations might include the need to wish for a better future. Others might reflect on the wishbones' symbolism - that of being broken, of flexibility, and of defiance. This sculpture came to the museum as a gift of the Peter Norton family. Each year the Norton family commissions a contemporary artist to produce a limited edition work to be sent to museums, collectors, and friends. MEM
