Label TextJenny Holzer has created several text series and displayed them in untraditional locations for fine art-airports, city streets, or ballparks-as well as in museums and galleries. Her first series, "Truisms," is a long list of short statements representing several political points of view. These include "Abuse of power comes as no surprise" and "Protect me from what I want." Her "Survival Series," to which this small plaque belongs, contains statements that are closer to the artist's own opinions. Holzer calls them "an alternative public service message." MEM 2002
