Label TextRisa Sussman's sculpture is characteristic of the late-1960s period of exuberant experimentation in the visual arts. She and other artists of the era chose materials that were unusual at the time - neon or latex, for example - and worked obsessively with them. In this untitled sculpture, Risa transforms industrial lead pipes into a cluster that calls to mind a number of associations. These include not only phalluses, but also densely formed environments, such as an urban landscape or a primeval forest. MEM
