DescriptionSPEED, LAKE CHAMPLAIN The reverse contains a sketch in black crayon and the followng inscriptions in artists hand 'strip of grey then white' along bottom verso, 'Silver strip, white mat' which most likely refers to the desired presentation mat. 'Frame yellow and black or olive green' in blue crayon. This watercolor ahs a pencil line 1/8' around recto edges which on close examination appears to have silver leaf remnants embedded in a glue residue in the extreme outer borders. This may be an indication of a previous silver leaf fillet (paper or wood) glued to the artwork's edges. Refer also to MHCAMS' MArin 'Autumn with an originla silver leaf mat and frame (see artist file for reprint describing silver leaf backboard). On View
