Label TextAlthough Ralston Crawford's paintings look non-representational, the artist was always inspired by scenes from industrial, urban, or seaside landscapes. He characteristically reduced the details of these stimuli to form an abstracted essence of the place. A comparison between his photograph Santa Semana (Holy Week) and his painting of the same subject Celebration (Los Penitentes) sheds light on his working method. MEM
