Label TextThe twenty-two engravings Blake made to illustrate the Hebrew bible's Book of Job are considered his greatest graphic achievement. This book narrates the trials of Job whose faith God challenged in numerous ways. It is considered one of the greatest stories in world literature. Blake based this image on the passage in Job 40 that describes Behemoth, a mythical beast that was created by God, but was too powerful for the mortal Job to ever control.
