Label TextChiefly through his drawings, but also through prints and paintings, Sigmund Abeles seeks to capture intimate moments of life. His subjects are people, and he uses the human form as a reflection of inner emotions. Abeles's drawing of maestro Kurt Mazur (born 1927) captures him as he conducts the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, which he led for eleven years. Born in Silesia (now Poland), Mazur is a leading interpreter of the composer Johannes Brahms and has conducted some of the world' s leading orchestras. Carolyn Stroebel Intern February 2006
