Abeles's drawing of maestro Kurt Mazur (born 1927) captures him as he conducts the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, which he led for eleven years. Born in Silesia (now Poland), Mazur is a leading interpreter of the composer Johannes Brahms and has conducted some of the world' s leading orchestras.
