Label TextTable clocks, so named for their intended placement, were popular in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. On many examples, the dials had raised pins so that an owner could determine the time in the dark. Because of their prominent placement, the cases of some table clocks were exceptionally ornamental. This conservative example has glass sides so that the mechanism can be observed.
