Label TextThe Roses Point, a type of lace native to Brussels, is the needlepoint lace par excellence. Its distinctive features are very fine floral motifs, generally surrounded by tulle that is also made with a needle. Point de Rose lace was used primarily for bridal veils, handkerchiefs, collars and fans. This type of lace incorporates motifs of butterflies, flowers, and floral bouquets in its design, as seen on this fan. Maria Proctor, who may have been the original owner of this fan, was documented by the New York Times, to be wearing a gown and accessories with this type of lace at her wedding in 1891 to Thomas Redfield Proctor.
