Label TextImogen Cunningham was prolific artist, photographing for more than seven decades of her life. She lived in California, was part of group f/64 with other photographers like Ansel Adams (1902-84), and believed in taking crisp, clear photographs to capture life. Her subjects often were friends and family members, as well as nude figures and botanical themes.
Like Cunningham, Morris Graves (1912-2001) also came from the West Coast. His drawings of nature combined influences of the Pacific Northwest with those of East Asia. Birds were one of his most common subjects. The museum owns several of his works.
