Label TextKandinsky published this lithograph shortly after he began teaching at the famous design school in Weimar, Germany commonly known as the Bauhaus. Speaking about another series of lithographs he also published in 1922, Kandinsky wrote that he favored this medium because the prints closely approximate a painting. Kandinsky believed that abstract images were not arbitrary arrangements of colors and shapes but, instead, depict a higher, spiritual reality derived from an artist's inner vision.
