Label TextArt brass furniture typically served as accent pieces in formal rooms—with the exception of brass beds, the popularity of which extended beyond that of other brass furniture. This shaving stand may well have coordinated with a bedroom suite. The decoration of the stand, which includes palmetto leaves, stylized flowers, and a lacy frame with Moorish overtones illustrates how art brass designers often combined multiple art historical precedents.
