Label TextHarnett’s complex still-life, A Study Table, is one of his most ambitious and detailed paintings and is celebrated for its depth and precision. Unlike earlier American still-life painters such as Raphaelle Peale, the artist of Still-Life with Steak, who painted mostly complimentary groups of fruits and flowers, Harnett was known for painting contrasting objects with complicated details that allowed him to display his extraordinary skill.
