Label TextTraditionally, nineteenth-century wedding cakes were dark, rich, fruit cakes. Cutting the cake was the climax of the reception. The cake was not, however, served at the reception. Instead, small pieces of cake were boxed and each guest was invited to take a box home.
This piece of cake is from the wedding of John F. Calder and Adelaide S. Walcott, June 15, 1880.
